We're looking for Action Team Leaders!

Last year we agreed to make some changes to how Sunday Assembly London was structured and make sure there's a clear process in place. We’ve worked with Sunday Assembly Trustees, other Community Builders and Harvard lecturers to make sure that we have thought through how we can make such a massive community work best, with a clear support structure for volunteer activity and to ensure that more voices are heard. Details on how to apply are further down the post!

What is an Action Team Leader?

An action team is made up of a group (normally three) leaders who are there to ensure that the area that they are responsible for is working well and that lots of volunteers are getting involved. It also means that there isn’t just one person responsible for any given area and that the Action Team Leaders work together with the Community Creator. Details on how to apply are further down the post!

We’ve set out the Action Teams for Sunday Assembly London like this

On the diagram above you’ll see that the Action Team areas are in blue. The Action Team Leaders for each area will be made up of people who will be responsible for working with the Community Creator to develop and support the volunteer teams (the ones in pink). For example the Communication Action Team will support the Press & Listings team, the Social Media team and the Website team.

What’s Involved in being an Action Team Leader

The Action Team members will act as a leadership team within Sunday Assembly London. This will include being part of a Purpose Day with Sunday Assembly Headquarters to agree on goals for the year, the financial targets and the timelines for Sunday Assembly London.

Each team will meet with the Community Creator once a month to start with, moving to once every two months for support and updates. All of the Action Team Leaders will meet quarterly to share successes and challenges. You will be offered development opportunities and will be part of the beating heart of the community. Those in Action Team Leadership roles will get great experience volunteering and leading alongside other great community members and giving people the opportunity to volunteer and make a difference in your teams.

How long is the role for?

The role is for two years. We’ll start the application process at 18 months so that there’s a good handover period for changes in the team. If there is a reason you have to step down before that you are not tied down, but we would like you to enter into it with the intention to volunteer as a leader for two years!

Who chooses who gets to be on the Action Teams?

For this year it will be the Transition Team, which is made up of:

Vanda Green

Pippa Evans

Emma Broomfield

Chris Tennant

Ruth Moir

Colin McClure

Sanderson Jones

After this, the Action Team Leaders will create a group who will take on this task with the Community Creator.

What if I apply and don’t get a place?

We know that we can’t give everyone a place on an Action Team. We’re looking for people who display these leadership qualities and are the best people to support other volunteers:

  • Solution focused over problem focused

  • Ability to receive and give constructive feedback

  • Able to lead & support other volunteers with clear communication

  • Empower others and take pride in others’ achievements

  • Team Player & Collaborator

  • Good people skills: know when to encourage & when to give space

  • Lead with compassion and open mindedness

If you don’t get asked to be a volunteer Action Team leader you are still massively important to us. Remember that the action teams are made up of smaller teams that need incredible people to be volunteering on them. We are excited to make sure that by having clear teams we can have more capacity to welcome you and other volunteers into the community.
