Sunday Assembly is doing an East End Pop Up. On May 8th we are doing a Sunday morning singalong shindig (Shindingalong? Singashindig?) in Poplar.

We'll be launching a monthly assembly in September, but on May 8th we’ll be coming together at the amazing new Spotlight youth centre for the first of two pop up pre-launch assemblies, celebrating our new congregation with the theme of ‘Beginnings’...

We’ve got a great line up of speakers and poets, including:

Tiu de Haan - Our main speaker, a secular 'celebrant' who will be discussing the importance of ritual, and helping us celebrate our new congregation in style! Find out more about her work and watch her moving and insightful TED talk here:

Raymond Antrobus - Our featured poet is one of six poet laureates for London, and co-curator of legendary London poetry night Chill Pill. He’ll be performing new work inspired by his work at an East London deaf school, and how he, as a hard of hearing poet, navigates the hearing

Sanderson Jones - Our host for this first East End event, is a stand up comedian and exquisite beard cultivator. He is also co-founder of Sunday Assembly, a community which has now spread in just three years to 70 assemblies in 8 countries worldwide.

Plus communal singing with a full live band! We'll be joined this time by the amazing Camden Voices leading the singing, as well as performing solo.

The Assembly will run from 11 to 12:30 AM, followed by drinks and snacks. If the sun turns up we can even have a picnic in Langdon Park next door!

So what exactly is Sunday Assembly? Good question! Sunday Assembly is a secular congregation that celebrates life - we aim to help each other live better, help often and wonder more. We have no doctrine or deity, but everyone is welcome, regardless of their beliefs - this is a place of love that is open and accepting. We also aim to be accessible to all. More details to follow, but please contact us to discuss any access needs.

Finally, we're on the hunt for more volunteers to help launch the new congregation... get involved and be there at the beginning of something special! Areas you could get involved with include the live band, hosting, speaking, promo, community engagement... and whatever else you can bring to the mix!
